The eighth annual Lead King Loop charity races are set for Sept. 18.

New this year is a 25K race – the Colorado 25K trail championship – with cash prizes for top finishers.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Auxiliary is holding its 11th annual golf tournament on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Battlement Mesa Golf Club. This is the auxiliary’s only fundraiser.

The tournament is a scramble and is limited to 96 players on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $90 per person.



Trophies are awarded for low net, second low net, third low net, longest drive for both men and women, closest to the pin on all par-3 holes and, if golfers ace No. 13, they receive a brand-new Buick Regal, compliments of Berthod Motors.

Registration forms can be obtained at the course or by calling Bob Campbell at 285-6492 or 210-5931.

The Three Rivers High School Football Association is looking for officials. Prospects will be trained and a time commitment is required.

Hands-on training is every Wednesday night at either Glenwood Springs High School or Gypsum Town Hall. Officials will start out with sub-varsity games until proficiency is achieved.

Officials from Rifle to Glenwood, from Eagle to Vail and from Carbondale to Aspen are needed.
