Bernie Boettcher of Silt repeated in winning the second annual Half & Half 10K Mountain Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 27, in a time of 44 minutes, 53 seconds. Second place in the men’s standings at the Snowmass Village race went to Michael Scanlon in 47:47. Third was Steve Miller in 49:49.On the women’s side, Janice Penrose of San Diego won with a new course record of 49:54. Second was Jennifer Burn in 53:01 and third was Wendy Lyall in 55:01. The top three men and women split a total prize purse of $650.

The eighth annual Lead King Loop charity races are set for Sept. 18.New this year is a 25K race – the Colorado 25K trail championship – with cash prizes for top finishers. Sign up at http://www.leadkingloop25k.com or contact Craig Macek at 704-1275. All proceeds benefit the Marble schools.

The third annual Derbs Softball Tournament, which supports the boys high school baseball team and the girls basketball team, is slated for Sept. 16-17 at Two Rivers Park and Sayre Park in Glenwood Springs.The cost is $250 per team, and there are brackets for both men’s teams and co-ed teams. All teams will play at least three games. There will also be a home run derby with prizes.First-place teams will receive T-shirts. Spots will go to the first eight paid teams. Volunteers are needed for the 27th annual Tri-Glenwood Triathlon, which is slated for Sept. 11. All volunteers receive a dri-release athletic shirt and ticket to the post-race barbecue.Call Heidi at 963-2777 or email triglenwood@yahoo.com if interested.
