Independence Run and Hike in Carbondale is putting on the third annual Jingle Bell 5K Run on Sunday. The race begins at 11 a.m. and starts at the store.

For the second straight year, the event features a shoe drive, in which the first 50 people to sign up and donate an old (or new) pair of shoes to Independence’s Soles4Souls collection box will receive a free goodie bag that includes a coupon for a free burrito and hot drink of choice from Dos Gringos.

The race is changing from a four-mile run to a 5K this year.

From Independence’s location (586 Highway 133), racers run the Rio Grande Trail to Eighth Street, then to Merrill/Fourth Avenue and across Main Street to Sopris Avenue. Then it’s a run up White Hill and back to the store.

The cost is $10. Register at the store or beginning at 9:30 a.m. on race day. Call 704-0909 for more information.
