The Defiance Volleyball Club earned first place in the age 15 division and second place in the reserve championship flight in the annual Western Colorado Showcase Volleyball tournament, held in Grand Junction Jan. 21-22.

The team played nine matches, going 7-2 on the weekend, including wins over two age 17 teams to get to the championship match. The tournament is put on each year by the Western Colorado Volleyball Club.

The Sopris Barracudas swim team will be hosting an open house tonight at the Glenwood Springs Community Center pool from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Kids 6 and older can bring their suit and join current team members in the pool for games and parents can learn more about this year-round swim program.

Starting in February, the team will also offer a fitness group dedicated to swimmers getting ready for the transition to the high school level or who want to keep in shape for high school swimming.
