Mara Hotaling hit a hole-in-one at Ranch at Roaring Fork on Tuesday.

Swinging a 9-iron, Hotaling covered 83 yards to the cup on the fifth hole. The shot was witnessed by her husband, Ken.

Mr. T’s Fishing Derby is slated for Saturday, May 12, from 1-4 p.m. at Grand River Park in New Castle.



The free event, put on by New Castle Cub Scouts Pack No. 221 and New Castle Recreation, is for children 3 to 15 years old. Bring a fishing pole and bait.

Registration is now open for the 13th annual Mother’s Day Mile, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 13, at 1 p.m. The one-mile race is a fundraiser for the Advocate Safehouse Project.

Pre-registered participants are guaranteed an eco-friendly bag with goodies. The race is open to women, men and families. Everyone gets a finish-line rose, homemade apple pie a la mode and a chance to win African age-group awards. Special attractions include a gift basket silent auction, activities for kids and more.

The 2012 Demons Youth Basketball Camp is slated for June 11-14 at the Glenwood Springs High School gymnasium.

The camp is for male and female athletes entering the fourth through ninth grades. Fourth- through sixth-graders meet from 9-11 a.m. each day, while seventh- through ninth-graders go from noon-2 p.m. Enrollment is limited to 100 campers per session.

Camp instruction will emphasize the following: positive team attitude, motivation and goal setting, shooting, passing, ballhandling and dribbling, defensive concepts and total player development.

Players should wear a T-shirt, shorts and appropriate shoes and bring a water bottle.

New Castle Recreation is running an adult 3-on-3 basketball league this summer. Games will be played Thursday nights from 6-8 p.m. at Hot Shot Park.

The season runs June 14-Aug. 9 and includes two weeks of tournament play.

The cost is $100 per team. Rosters must consist of a maximum of five players 16 or older. Registration is due by June 7.
