Sports Panel " What’s your take on new Broncos’ head coach Josh McDaniels?

Josh McDaniels?

Well, he’s no John Elway … which would be a good thing, unless the Broncos suddenly began dealing in “previously owned” vehicles ” oh, wait, they did recycle the Cleveland Browns’ defensive line a few years ago.

Anyway, McDaniels has the Patriot genealogy, but that hasn’t helped a number of coordinators who stumbled in their first tries as head coach. And usurping Al Davis’ latest coaching disaster by becoming the NFL’s youngest head coach is an interesting choice also ” though taking Mike Shanahan from the Raiders turned out to be an inspired choice, no matter what you may think of him lately.

So, a young, inexperienced coordinator? In the copy-cat NFL, breaking from tradition may not be such a bad thing.

Meanwhile, I’m happy to see Kurt Warner and ‘Zona hosting the NFC championship, even if I did pick the Eagles way back when (and when they were 5-5, that wasn’t looking so good) to make it to the Super Bowl this year.

The Denver Broncos depart ways with coach Mike Shanahan and replaced him with a younger version of himself. Josh McDaniels is a supposed offensive whiz kid from the Patriots’ system.

One of J-Mac’s first acts as coach was hiring Mike Nolan as the defensive coordinator. This side of the ball needs the most improvement.

I was more interested in this position than any other. Personally, I’m in the middle on this action. It could work well or blow up in the face of the Broncos. The defense does not have to be great in Denver, just average, as long as the offense continues to improve.

In the end, I’ll take a wait-and-see approach to the kid taking the reins from the Mastermind. He will need to duplicate his mentor, Belli-cheat, and win three Super Bowls to win my heart.

I hope he brings the winning tradition of the Patriots to Denver, but not the cheating, the grumpiness in press conferences, or the ridiculous hooded sweatshirts on the sidelines.

McDaniels has huge shoes to fill and grand expectations to fulfill. It’s a pretty daunting task for a kid, in NFL terms.

Really like his teeth ………
