Spotlight on a Parachute trustee

Age: 37

Hometown: Born in raised in Glenwood and Carbondale area

Years in Parachute: 12 years

Years on board: 6-8 months

Will you run for your position again? I absolutely will run again; it’s been a wonderful experience, and I wish I would’ve done it earlier. The people are wonderful.

Why did you decide to run for the board? They had an opening. After 12 years of being in town you feel like you’re not passing through anymore, it’s home. I thought this would be a way for me to have to pay attention to what’s going on around me, one way to keep in touch.

When do you meet with other council members? Other than casual meetings, just monthly meetings.

How many hours per week do you dedicate to the job? 6-8 hours a month

What has been your proudest moment so far on the council? Home rule just passed a month or two back; actually working with the people was great. They were wonderful and brilliant people, unbelievable. The mayor and his wife were fantastic in how they took charge.

What has been most frustrating? Most of my frustrations more or less are trying to understand our direction and how to get there. The political aspect is most frustrating because it’s new to me.

Why public service? Well I didn’t know we got paid, so the biggest reason I got involved was to hold myself accountable in the town where my kids are growing up in.
