Four Glenwood Springer track and field athletes are back in Colorado after a successful trip to the Region 10 Junior Olympics regional meet in El Paso, Texas. Next stop: Baltimore, Md.

Two of the four – Bryce Risner and Justin Thompson – qualified for Junior Olympic nationals, which will be held July 23-29 in Baltimore.

Also making the trip to the University of Texas at El Paso-hosted regional meet were Alex Cutright and Gavin Olson.

Risner won a regional championship, jumping a personal-best 4 feet, 9 1/4 inches in the midget boys (ages 11-12) high jump. He’ll be attending his third consecutive national meet.

Thompson competed in three events – the midget high jump, the long jump and the 80-meter hurdles – in El Paso. He placed third in the high jump, equaling a personal record by clearing 4-7. He also placed third in the hurdles and fourth in the long jump.

Thompson will be making his first appearance at nationals.

The top five finishers in each event earned national berths. Region 10 is made up of athletes from Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and the Border Association (El Paso).

Olson placed 10th in the midget boys 400, narrowly missing the top-eight finish needed to make the finals.

Cutright finished 11th in the youth boys (ages 13-14) high jump and 12th in the discus.
