Stage 6: Golden to Denver
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
The finale of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge figures to be a lot less sedate than its counterpart at the Tour de France. Don’t expect team members to be exchanging plastic flutes of champagne, while riding, as Lance Armstrong’s team did during his record run.
With only seven stages, including the prologue, this tour isn’t long enough to provide the separation for a stately triumphal ride.
Stage 6, 57 miles, starts with three loops around Lookout Mountain in Golden, and that may be the last opportunity for teams to gain and/or lose ground. There is 1,300 feet of elevation change, so watch out there.
The pack will ride east, mostly on Colorado Road 181, before veering south on Speer Boulevard. The finish is on Broadway within the shadow of the State Capitol. With Civic Center Park as the backdrop, it’s bound to be a scene to remember.
