State a learning experience for Demons’ Brandi Vinger
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
Glenwood Springs High School’s Brandi Vinger’s stay at the Class 4A girls tennis state tournament came to an end after one match on Thursday.
The junior lost in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) to Thompson Valley’s Emily Erickson in the first round of the No. 3 singles bracket at Pueblo City Park.
“I’d say she represented herself well, and her team and her school,” said Glenwood assistant coach Roger Yost, who accompanied Vinger to Pueblo. “She came up against a very talented opponent.”
Vinger qualified for state by placing second at last week’s Region 8 tournament in Grand Junction.
As a team, the Demons placed fourth at regionals to wrap one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent history.
Yost thinks Vinger’s state showing will serve as motivation for the entire team.
“We haven’t had anyone go to state in quite a few years,” he said. “I think, next year, we’ll see some girls striving hard to get there. Overall, it was a good year, a special year.”
And there’s no doubt Vinger wants to return to state.
Said Yost: “I know she’s going to work really hard over the summer to get back to state.”
