Stepping out for the last time

Steppin' Out with AprilApril E. ClarkGlenwood Springs, CO Colorado

I’m going to miss this job.Except for the critics – sometimes my skin is not as tough as it should be in this business. But I undoubtedly will miss covering arts and entertainment in Garfield County. The last few years have been a blast, and it’s the creative people in this town who made it so great.I especially love the vibe at the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts – fun and funky. There are so many talented artists who display their art there. And the Fairy Festival has to be the cutest darn thing I’ve ever seen. I recommend everyone stop by, gaze at the art and maybe take a class or two today.

And don’t forget to meet Renick, the Center’s artist-in-residence. He’s a blast.Summer of Jazz and Mountain Fair are also events I’ll never forget, and will try to catch when I visit the valley next year. There’s something to be said about enjoying live music in the park, surrounded by beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery.Just like heaven.Hopefully my experiences in Flagstaff will be as wild as they’ve been here. And the people will be as much fun. I’m all about having a good time. No matter where I call home.

It’s happening in Carbondale to boot: TGIF Afternoon Party, KDNK comedy live broadcast with April Clark, Mark Thomas, Steve Skinner, Beth Brandon and Michael Yoder, 4 p.m. and complimentary snacks and drinks for all current, new and renewing members. Information: http://www.kdnkradio.orgThis is why I’d kick it up here: This will be a serious comedy test, with my 10 minutes of fame being broadcast across the valley on KDNK. If I bomb, everyone will know it. But I am leaving town, so maybe I shouldn’t be too worried about my reputation. Maybe I should have thought about that a long time ago …

It’s happening in Glenwood Springs to boot: Second annual Oktoberfest, live music, dance performances, beer, hot food and vendors, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Centennial Park, Ninth Street and Grand AvenueThis is why I’d kick it up here: Nothing says fall like an Oktoberfest celebration. So head downtown Saturday afternoon for a generous serving of German food and drink – especially beer, wonderful beer – live music and dancing. Funk sounds from SoulFeel and polka playing by Alpine Echo will make this one event not to miss.Hopefully they’ll play the chicken dance.Post Independent, Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO
