Storm forces cancellation of some Re-2 events

Staff Report

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. ” Over the past 24 hours the Roaring Fork Valley ushered in the winter with a storm that brought heavy amounts of snow to the area.

The Garfield School District No. Re-2 is canceling the after-school program at the elementary and middle school levels for the Tuesday evening.

All high school athletic practices also have been canceled for this evening. The Rifle Middle School basketball game vs. St. John’s has been canceled and rescheduled for Wednesday and the Riverside Middle School basketball game vs. Aspen has also been canceled. It has not yet been rescheduled. A decision regarding school for Wednesday will be made around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

As of around noon, Sunlight Mountain Resort reported 10-11 inches of snowfall in the last 24 hours with a base of 25 inches at the top. The same storm dumped 18 inches at Aspen/Snowmass allowing for more terrain to open throughout the week. It’s still snowing heavily and the storm is expected to continue through Wednesday morning.

“It depends on how the storm pans out, but this snow will make for some good runs for sure,” said Sunlight Mountain Resort Marketing Manager Lauren Yant.

Sunlight is scheduled to open Friday.
