Summer of Jazz Sneak Peek

Twenty-four-year-old trumpeter Christian Scott is the third New Orleans jazz act to play the Summer of Jazz free concert series Wednesday. The free outdoor concerts take place through July 25 at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in Two Rivers Park in West Glenwood.Scott’s debut album, “Rewind This” – which blends rock, funk and soul – received rave reviews for his distinctive sound as an up-and-coming trumpeter. Prior to the CD’s release, Scott was heralded as a newcomer to watch in 2006. Jazz, indie rock, neo-soul and hip-hop stylings highlight his second disc, “Anthem.” Thoughts on Hurricane Katrina and changes Scott underwent over the last year in his personal life resonate in the 12 tracks.”My life changed completely,” Scott said, in a press statement. “So, the compositions on ‘Anthem’ aren’t just about one thing. They’re about all kinds of things, while they definitely have some political undertones. But, one thing is certain. The house I grew up in is gone. There’s no home in the Ninth Ward.”To hear samples of Scott’s music, log on to For information about the 22nd annual free concert series, visit April E. Clark
