Summit leads resort counties for 2008 sales

Resort real estate transactions for the full year of 2008 have been finalized.

The resort areas tracked by Land Title Guarantee Co. consist of Eagle, Garfield, Pitkin, Routt and Summit counties.

Collectively, these five counties posted a total of 6,905 transactions. Summit County remained the leader in transactions, reporting 1,834 for 2008. Eagle County edged out Garfield County in the last month of the year to capture the second place spot with 1,606. Garfield County landed in the No. 3 spot this year with 1,560 total transactions. Finishing out the area were Routt County and Pitkin County, which reported 1,077 and 828, respectively.

In terms of rankings, Summit County maintained the No. 1 spot for back-to-back years, while Eagle and Garfield counties did a flip-flop in 2008, as Garfield was No. 2 in 2007 and Eagle was No. 3. Routt and Pitkin counties also remained consistent, capturing the fourth and fifth spots. Collectively, the resort areas trailed 2007 transactions by approximately 45 percent.
