The Sunlight U12/U10 Festival took place at Sunlight Mountain Resort outside Glenwood Springs last weekend.

“I think these guys are skiing really well,” Sunlight Ski Team coaches Leigh Sheldrake and Mike Simpson said of the team’s chances going in.

On Sunday, in the slalom portion of the event, the young athletes pretty much proved them right.

Nearly 260 athletes from ski teams throughout the state took part in the races, held on Sunlight’s Joslin run.

The hard work and sacrifice the kids have been putting into their training since early September paid back in ribbons, medals and smiles.

This Saturday, Sunlight’s slalom aces head up to Aspen Highlands for a Roaring Fork Valley Series race, building on their momentum, with a majority of the team receiving Paradise cookie “medals.” Also on Feb. 9 and 10 will be the Bolle Age Class race at Aspen.
