Support McInnis’ forest fire reduction act

Dear Editor,

A good plan needs support – the Healthy Forest and Wildfire Risk Reduction Act HR 5219.

Let’s rally around the forest-thinning plan proposed by Congressman Scott McInnis.

Once in a while a plan comes from a legislator that looks so good you wonder how anyone could oppose it. Like milk for babies or kindness for dogs.

This forest-thinning plan is supported by Democrats and Republicans and should significantly reduce the risk of catastrophic fire. We in Glenwood Springs and many other Colorado communities have seen firsthand what wildfire can do. Let’s do what we can to prevent it.

Let’s manage the forest, and call it what it is: a renewable, multiple use asset.

Don’t believe the negative comments put forth by extreme environmentalists; we can and should be pro-active in using and not abusing our national forest and federal lands.

Call Scott and tell him to keep up the good work. Also call 970-544-0733 the Aspen Wilderness Workshop, and the Aspen Wilderness Society and Sierra Club and ask them to support this common sense plan. It could boost their credibility.
