Suspect named in Glenwood Springs officer shooting case

GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Law enforcement has released the name of a man wanted for questioning in the shooting of a Glenwood Springs Police officer on July 29.

The man, Anthony “Speedy” Villegas, 19, was last known to be living in New Castle. He’s 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He’s also wanted on a nationwide drug related felony warrant and failure to comply on a charge of aggravated motor vehicle theft.

Villegas should be considered armed and dangerous.



The reward for information leading to an arrest in the July 29 shooting has been increased to $7,000.

A second suspect is also wanted in connection with the shooting.

On July 29, a Glenwood Police officer was shot in the chest, but his bulletproof vest helped save his life. He was on patrol near the Glenwood Springs Airport at an automobile impound lot. He saw a man climbing down from a fence, and then noticed two men walking away. After several verbal demands for the men to stop, one man turned abruptly and fired multiple shots at the officer, hitting him once.

Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson has declined to release the name of the officer but said that he is doing well after the shooting.
