GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Glenwood Springs police arrested a suspected illegal immigrant Tuesday after he allegedly presented a social security card with a Rifle woman’s number on it at Glenwood Medical Associates.

Police arrested Carlos Efren Suriano, 32, of Glenwood Springs, on suspicion of identity theft and forgery.

According to an arrest affidavit, an employee at Glenwood Medical Associates said Suriano came in on Oct. 30 and gave her a social security card to pay for treatment.

Problem was, the number actually belonged to a woman who lives in Rifle whose information was already in the clinic’s system, the affidavit says.

The employee photocopied the social security card Suriano presented and an expired U.S. Resident Alien Card, the affidavit says. She then alerted the customer whose social security number was already in the clinic’s system. The customer told a detective about the allegations.

Suriano had also managed to get a construction job with a Glenwood Springs company. The employer reportedly told the clinic employee who asked about the social security number, “Well, that’s what he gave us,” and didn’t seem concerned, the affidavit says.
