OLATHE Got corn?

The Olathe Sweet Corn Festival today and Saturday is sure sweet on corn. The annual event was started in 1992 as a celebration of the western Colorado town’s famous crop. Today, thousands flock to Olathe for a taste of nature’s buttered goodness and plenty of family fun and live music. In 2006, 15,000 festivalgoers consumed more than 70,000 ears of Olathe sweet corn, increasing the town’s population during the two-day event 1,400 percent. This year’s alcohol-free event welcomes country-pop star LeAnn Rimes, with opening act the Anders Brothers, at 7:30 p.m. at Olathe Community Park. A car show and burn-out contest, street dance, pancake breakfast, the Corn Festival Parade, karaoke, carnival games and novelty booths not to mention all the sweet corn one can eat are also featured.

The rural farming community of Olathe is located between Delta and Montrose in Montrose County. For more information, visit http://www.olathesweetcornfest.com.
