Take in a concert and support youth football in Carbondale

A benefit concert will be held Saturday, March 24, at PAC3 to support the youth football programs in Carbondale.

This family-friendly event will include three musical acts, door prizes and special guests and boosters of the Carbondale football programs.

Carbondale’s own All the Pretty Horses will be joined by Beautiful Buzz and Happy Ashtray, both from Madison, Wis., as the night’s entertainment.

Roaring Fork High School football coach Tory Jensen explained that raising funds to support both youth and high school football is essential for the future of the programs.

“It costs a ton of money to outfit players with equipment and uniforms,” he said. “In this era of reduced funding, it is essential we raise money to ensure our equipment is well maintained and safe for the kids.”

Jensen went on to add that it costs nearly $1,000 per player to outfit them in the proper gear.

“We absolutely need outside support to make sure we outfit the kids in good equipment and decent uniforms,” said Jensen.

Scott Fitzwilliams, who is Carbondale’s Three Rivers Youth Football city representative, said the evening is a chance for parents and football boosters to get together and have some fun.

“The benefit concert is going to be a wonderful time for all,” he said. “It gives supporters of the program the opportunity to relax and have some fun and support the football program in Carbondale.”

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at White House Pizza and Dos Gringos Burritos in Carbondale. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the entertainment will last until about 11. There are a limited number of tickets available.

Like many other extracurricular activities, youth football is made possible by a host of generous volunteers and donors.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of local businesses and the many parents and volunteers,” Fitzwilliams said. “We really need the help if we are going to continue to have youth football in Carbondale. Ten bucks is a small price to pay for a great evening of fun and to support a great cause.”
