Teacher’s association supports Re-2 override

Kathy Goodman

Dear Editor,

West Garfield Education Association supports the school board of Garfield School District Re-2 in their efforts to pass a mill levy override on the Nov. 4 ballot. Given the current state of the economy in Colorado, it only makes sense for our school district to seek additional funding in the form of the mill levy override.

Our school board has adopted three main goals: To have the highest-achieving students, the best-trained staff, and the best paid staff.

In order to support and achieve these goals, Garfield School District Re-2 will need more funding for staff, transportation, and programs proven to raise student achievement. The recent bond election demonstrated the school board’s commitment to improving the quality of the buildings and facilities of the district, when the district contributed $6 million toward the construction and upgrades.

Now the district is working to complement our state-of-the-art facilities with highly qualified staff and programs to bring our schools to the forefront of genuine student-achievement oriented reform. Our students, our parents, our communities will all benefit from this effort, not only now, but for many years to come.

We respectfully and urgently ask that you join us in voting in favor of the mill levy override in November. Our schools are an investment in our children and the future of our communities.

Respectfully,

Kathy Goodman

President, West Garfield Education Association
