Teams, donors wanted for Spellebration 2003

Adult spellers are invited to a very special tea party. Spellebration 2003 – Alice in Wordland will be held Friday, March 7, starting at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Colorado.

Three-person teams are being sought to participate in this annual fund-raiser, which benefits the nonprofit Literacy Outreach organization and Colorado Mountain College’s Learning Labs. The entry fee is $150. Sponsors are being sought for both the event and individual teams, and silent auction donations also are needed.

Teams also may purchase word passes in advance or at the event. Spellers will be provided for those wishing to sponsor a team.

Spellebration is the chief fund-raiser for Literacy Outreach, which last year used professionally trained volunteer tutors to teach more than 125 students. That assistance has helped students gain or improve employment, obtain citizenship, purchase homes, start businesses, and begin volunteering in their children’s schools.

Spellebration proceeds also support scholarships for 75 GED students working in the CMC College Learning Labs.

For more information on entering a team or otherwise contributing to Spellebration, contact the Literacy Outreach office at 945-5282.
