Teen faces murder charge in baby’s death

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) ” Prosecutors have filed a first-degree murder charge against an 18-year-old Western State College student in the death of her newborn child.

Addie Kubisiak of Parker is accused of keeping the remains of her baby in her dorm room at the college in Gunnison. Kubisiak said nothing during a court appearance Thursday.

She faces charges of first-degree murder of a child under 12 by a person in a position of trust, child abuse resulting in death and concealing a death. The murder charge carries a sentence of death or life in prison without parole.

Douglas County investigators said they believe Kubisiak gave birth in a car last fall.

Few details have been released, and District Judge Nancy Hopf issued a gag order.

Kubisiak is due back in court on April 2.
