Teens accused of Battlement Mesa burglary

Garfield County deputies arrested three teenagers on Dec. 16 and charged them with multiple felonies in connection with the alleged burglary of a home in Battlement Mesa.

The three are 16 and 17 years old, and their identities are being withheld because they are minors.

The address of the burglary was given as 67 W. Bonanza Place.

Allegedly the three were seen at 8:50 p.m. on a bike path, carrying “a safe or a cooler” in a wheelbarrow, according to a report from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Four deputies, in three vehicles, responded and rounded up the teenagers, according to the sheriff’s public information officer, Tanny McGinnis.

Following interviews that lasted an hour and a half, and an investigation that took a total of nine hours, the three were charged with possession of burglary tools, trespassing, theft, burglary and criminal mischief.

Two of the teens were taken to jail, and one was released to his parents, according to the sheriff’s office.
