Thanks from Stepstone Center’s SPIR&T Project

Dear Editor,The Stepstone Center would like to extend its gratitude for the generous support we received for two recent events that are part of our Students Promoting Individuality, Respect and Tolerance or SPIR&T Project. The first was the “Voices of Youth” poetry workshop given by Michael Meade that culminated in 40 local teenagers reading their poetry to an audience of nearly 100 at Roaring Fork High School two weeks ago. The other event was an assembly at Glenwood Springs High School entitled “Journey to a Hate Free Millennium” that was attended by approximately 700 students. Following the assembly, students led their peers in discussions of racism, homophobia and other forms of intolerance. Students from Aspen to Rifle attended both of these events, which received rave reviews from those who participated. Our thanks to the J. Robert Young Foundation, the Aspen Gay and Lesbian Community Fund, the town of Carbondale, the town of Basalt, KIVA, True North, the Carbondale Council for Arts and Humanities, MOSAIC, Colorado West, the Wolcott Family Foundation, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Ninth Judicial District Office of the District Attorney, the Family Resource Center, the Glenwood Springs High School Booster Club and Climate Committee, Roaring Fork High School and numerous volunteers and other supporters.Felicia TrevorDirector Stepstone Center
