The Glenwood Chapter of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles is having its annual, free Thanksgiving dinner, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Redstone’s annual Grand Illumination ceremony is set for 3:30-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27.
This traditional opening to the holiday season will include Santa’s procession down the boulevard lined with luminaries, the traditional tree lighting, caroling, and a spectacular bonfire.
The Redstone Art Center at 173 Redstone Blvd. will feature a new artist, Barbara Sophia, and her Murano glass jewelry and elegant silk scarves. The public is invited to meet the artist from 6:30-8 p.m. The new show will run until Jan. 31. Sophia works with Murano glass, as the translucent quality of glass surpasses any other in the world, as well as the range of exquisite colors. The glass blowers of Murano have dedicated their lives to preserving a centuries-old art form. Part of the process consists of hand-forming each single bead on a copper wire, and then dissolving the wire out of the bead. Each bead has 24k white and/or yellow gold encased in it, and some also have aventurine (copper flakes).
