‘The Minutes’ to be performed at Glenwood Springs High School

Achilles Pieper
Post Independent

“The Minutes” by Tracy Letts is a prickly political satire centered around a seemingly routine city council meeting in the small town of Big Cherry. As the meeting unfolds, a council member discovers that the minutes from a previous meeting are missing, which results in an investigation into what exactly caused these minutes to be missing. What starts as standard civic business quickly descends into chaos, with discussions that expose various truths, buried secrets, and gloomy aspects of the town’s history.

With its charming mix of biting humor and intense drama, The Minutes explores themes of power, mortality, and collective memory, as well as community-led denial, all while using the council meeting as a microcosm to examine how communities can choose to overlook uncomfortable truths in favor of maintaining order.

The play will be held at Glenwood Springs High School at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 18-19, directed by Samara Kallal & Charlie Hippensteel as part of their Capstone project. Tickets can purchased at the door, $15 for adults, $10 for kids 12 & under, as well as for students of Glenwood Springs High School.
