The world needs a lot more eccentrics

Deb Williams

Dear Editor,

When all the residents of the St. James Hotel were made homeless in the name of embroidery floss, the paper didn’t raise an eyebrow. But when a local man provides a needed community service and pays workers from his own pocket, he’s called “eccentric” on the front page.

Jeff was my neighbor for years, and our sons play together. When Jeff took his son to the gem and mineral show in Denver, he took my son, too, and showed him a great time. Jeff Hiltner is a kind and generous good neighbor to all of Glenwood.

If this kind of altruism is considered “eccentric,” then the world needs a lot more eccentrics.
