Thelma Erickson Sabbatini

Thelma Erickson Sabbatini, of Glenwood Springs, Colo., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Valley View Hospital. She was 82.

She was born April 2, 1919, in Seattle, Wash., to Otto and Jeannie Erickson. She graduated from Broadway High School.

She married Allisandro “Sandy” Sabbatini on Oct. 28, 1949, in Seattle. Mr. Sabbatini was an Italian immigrant, and the couple met when the then-Miss Erickson taught him English in an adult education class.

The couple moved to Aspen during the 1940s, and Mrs. Sabbatini became one of the town’s first ski instructors. Later the couple owned and operated Sabbatini Sports in Aspen for many years before retiring.

Mrs. Sabbatini was preceded in death by her husband; and by their son, Richard Sabbatini.

At her request, Mrs. Sabbatini was cremated with no formal burial ceremony.

A memorial gathering to remember Mr. and Mrs. Sabbatini is scheduled at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, at the couple’s home at 0515 167 Road in Glenwood Springs. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
