Things mostly ain’t broke in local politics

Dear Editor,

We have all heard the statement “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It looks like in this political season, we have a lot of positions that “ain’t broke.”

Nothing’s broken in the sheriff’s office. Tom Dalessandri has, in the last eight years, done a wonderful of doing his job and made our Sheriff’s office one to be envied by every other county in the state.

Nothing’s broken at the Glenwood Springs Police Department. Terry Wilson and Lou Vallario do a great job, and Lou Vallario should stay right where he is, helping the Glenwood Springs Police Department meet the challenges of the 21st century, just like Tom Dalessandri has done in the sheriff’s office.

Nothing’s broken in the treasurer’s office. Georgia Chamberlain has shown us all over the years that she is honest, competent, and handles the job; we can all be proud.

Nothing’s broken in the state Legislature. Greg Rippy has followed in Russ George’s footsteps and is a proven leader. He now has seniority and will be better able to represent us in the State Legislature.

There is something broke in the County Commissioner’s office. Tresi Houpt is by far the right person the represent us as County Commissioner. Her honesty, integrity and experiences, together with her willingness to work with the citizens of Garfield County, make her head and shoulders above the “old guard” Walt Stowe.

Let’s keep the good people in office and get rid of a fixture of the past.

Respectfully submitted,

William G. “Bill” Kaufman

Attorney at Law
