Thomas Michael Zanella
Thomas Michael Zanella, affectionately known as ‘Z’. He left this world and went to God on March 13, 2010 after a year long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Glenwood Springs on Feb. 28, 1960 to Bob and Bev Zanella.
Tom attended the Glenwood Springs public schools from kindergarten through high school graduating in 1978. He attended the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo earning his associate degree in electronics.
On June 25, 1983 Tom married his high school sweetheart Jennifer Halligan at St. Stephens Catholic Church. They have three wonderful sons, Preston who graduated from CSU in December 2009, Tyler who will graduate from Metro State College in May 2010 and Carter who is a junior at Smoky Hill High School in Aurora. Tom loved his family so much and he was the ‘Ideal Father and Husband’.
Tom and Jennifer moved to the Denver area after they married and Tom worked as a TV Technician. He most recently worked at Best Buy as a Manager of the Geek Squad where after his diagnosis he received fabulous support from his co-workers.
He grew up loving sports, playing little league baseball before excelling and lettering in high school football, basketball and track. His love of sports followed him throughout his life as he coached all three sons in Little League football and baseball. Tom continued to support his boys as they participated in high school and college athletics.
Officiating varsity high school basketball was another love of Tom’s that he continued until he was diagnosed with cancer.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jennifer; sons, Preston, Tyler and Carter; parents, Bob and Bev Zanella; brothers, Rob and Steve (Sandy) Zanella; sisters, Jean (Steve) Ewen and Trina (Thad) Jessen; in-laws Pat and Sandy Halligan and brothers in law, Dan and Tom; two nieces and four nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Lung Cancer Research fund, in memory of Tom Zanella at 2255 S. Oneida St., Denver, CO 80224.
The Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Farnum Holt Mortuary at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1885 Blake Avenue, Glenwood Springs, at 11 am Saturday March 20, 2010 with internment at Rosebud Cemetery.
