Threatening Rifle teen currently held at Grand Mesa youth center

Staff Report

The Garfield School District Re-2 issues the following update on the student who allegedly made threats against Rifle Middle School and the teaching staff this past weekend.

The student has been on an alternative placement for the past three months and has not been in regular attendance at the school. The student is not currently in the community and is being detained at Grand Mesa Youth Detention Center, where he has been since April 30. The school district, along with police and social service agencies, will evaluate his status on Monday, May 6, 2002. The school has received extra security during this process. There was not a hit list, a weapon, or any other action attached to this specific incident other than a threat. The alleged threat was made over the past weekend and not at school.
