Titans girls, boys victorious at Gunnison
Coal Ridge’s boys and girls basketball teams gutted out wins at Gunnison on Friday.
Behind 16 points from Andy Bowles, 11 from Ely Arreola and six from Alec Herrera, the boys escaped with their first win of the season.
“The guys played really well as a team,” said Coal Ridge coach Paul Harvey, whose team is now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the 3A Western Slope League. “The defensive effort was superb and the guys shared the ball. The hard work and dedication came to fruition tonight.”
Paige Ryan led Coal Ridge’s girls with 14 points in a 49-35 win. Amanda Wenzel had 12 for the Titans, who are now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
“The girls played well tonight,” Coal Ridge coach Damon Martinez said. “They worked hard defensively and took advantage of transition opportunities.”
