Top 10 sports stories, No. 10B: Bryan Derby, popular girls basketball coach at GSHS, dismissed
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
Bryan Derby’s run as girls basketball coach at Glenwood Springs High School came to an end after his dismissal in June.
Derby, who led the Demons to the 4A state playoffs in each of his six seasons at the helm of the program, said he was told a diminishing number of players in the program and an inability to get along with all players were the reasons why he was not invited back to be Glenwood’s coach.
Jacky Gaddis, the former girls basketball head coach at both Roaring Fork and Coal Ridge, took over. Under her watch, the Demons are off to a 6-1 start in 2012-13.
