Town Mothers seek responsible development

Dear Editor,

Regarding the letter from Cheryl Hasselbring, it should be noted that she is the secretary for Eric Gross, the attorney representing Brian Huster, the developer of the Crystal River Marketplace.

I’m guessing she has somewhat of a financial stake in writing a letter in support of the Marketplace.

As a member of the Town Mothers steering committee, please note that I have no financial stake in opposing this developer’s crummy plan. In fact, I donated money and now am spending half my summer making phone calls, going to meetings, giving presentations and the like.

Every one of the steering committee members and the numerous volunteers who are helping us with this campaign are doing so because they care about the future of Carbondale – both its economic future and its future quality of life. We realize that this parcel of land is the most valuable commercial property that Carbondale has and we would like to see it developed responsibly, intelligently and to its full potential.

We are not against growth or commercial projects; we are against this developer’s shoddy plan and his refusal to pay his fair share of the impacts.

Again, I urge all Carbondale voters, including Cheryl and Eric, to look at the facts and make an informed decision July 15.

Sincerely,

Shelle de Beque

Carbondale
