DELTA, Colorado – Regardless of the snow and rain, the Grand Valley track and field team has taken to the roads and track. The distance runners can be seen running the streets of Parachute. The throwers are brushing the mud off their shots and discuses, while the sprinters warm up at the starting blocks.

The Cardinals participated in the Delta Invitational on Saturday. It was the first meet of their season.

Jared Tonder placed third in the 300-meter hurdles and eighth in the 110 hurdles. Brandi Krieg placed second in the 1,600, fourth in the 400 and second in the 800. Tanner Neil placed eighth in the discus. Sam Whelan placed seventh in the 3,200.

The track team has a new head coach this year – Mark Jansen. He coached football and track at Rangely High School for several years before moving to Parachute last summer. He teaches social studies at Grand Valley as well.
