Tractor-trailer rollover shuts down Highway 13

RIFLE, Colo. An 18-wheeler tanker truck tipped over and knocked out a directional highway sign on Tuesday afternoon, causing a detour on Highway 13 for several hours.The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. and the highway was still closed and traffic rerouted onto detours as of late Tuesday afternoon, according to Rifle police chief Daryl Meisner.The truck was carrying a small amount of lime, which is a non-hazardous material, Meisner said. The accident is believed to have been caused by excessive speed.Traffic heading north on Highway 13 was diverted to Whiteriver Avenue and on 24th Street to the south.The directional highway sign, which has been knocked over before in previous accidents, was completely taken out. The highway closure caused at least one business, WingNutz Bar & Grille, to shut down as there was no access to the site following the highway closure.
