Trial lawyers have damaged our economy

Sharon A. Brenner

Dear Editor,

Mr. Sundin’s column (“The future of democracy in America,” 3/20) neglected to mention the larger contributors to the Democratic party. In an effort to provide balanced coverage, let me name a few: the American Trial Lawyers’ Association, which is the largest single contributor to any political party, the NEA, the ABA.

Since more people are employed by small business, i.e., less than 50 employees, ask them how much their liability insurance premiums have sky-rocketed as a result of the actions of a greedy group of trial lawyers.

I would suggest you obtain a copy of “The Rule of Lawyers” by Walter Olson to learn just how much our economy has been damaged by their actions.

Finally, we do not live in a democracy, the United States is based on representative democracy. It may seem like a small difference, but it is significant.
