TRIDENT arrests man, 57, on drug charges

A Garfield County Sheriff Deputy seized marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms in a raid on a Carbondale home last week.

On Friday, Aug. 19, a sheriff deputy arrived at the home of Timothy Bayless, 57, of 335 Willow Lane to arrest him on two outstanding arrest warrants on drug-related charges, a $15,000 Garfield County warrant and a $20,000 Clear Creek County warrant. The deputy saw drug paraphernalia in plain view from the front door of the house. The deputy could not get anyone to answer the door and contacted the Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team for a search warrant.

During the search of the house, Bayless arrived at the home and was arrested. The search turned up 219.1 grams of suspected marijuana, 14.6 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia. Bayless was currently on bond for unrelated felony narcotic charges.

He is charged with possession of psilocybin mushrooms, possession of one to eight ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of bond conditions.

Possession of psilocybin is a class 3 felony, with a range of two to 24 years in prison and $3,000-$750,000 fine. Possession of one to eight ounces of marijuana is a class 1 misdemeanor, with a possible 18 months in jail and $5,000 fine. Violation of bail bond conditions is a class 6 felony, with a range of up to three years in prison and $1,000-$100,000 fine. Possession of drug paraphernalia is a misdemeanor offense and punishable by a fine of not more than $100 for each charge.
