Two house fires break out Wednesday in Silt, New Castle
The Burning Mountain Fire Protection District was busy Wednesday evening with two fires that broke out in New Castle and Silt.A fire was reported around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday when a clothes dryer caught on fire in a home in the Castle Valley Ranch subdivision, according to Burning Mountains Fire Department Chief Brit McLin.Preliminary damage estimates were around $80,000, or 30 percent of the home, in the wall between the laundry room and the garage, a guest bedroom, attic space and an upstairs bedroom, McLin said. Two dogs and a cat were rescued from the home and no injuries were reported. The New Castle Police Department assisted with the fire, which was cleared at nearly 7:30 p.m.Between 5 and 5:15 p.m., the district was again called out for a fire in Silt at a demolition site at 10th Street and Grand Avenue. An older mobile home was being demolished at the site.”Damage was limited to the address being demolished and some landscaping at the neighbor’s,” McLin said. “The town of Silt helped with a backhoe and the Rifle Fire Department provided a mobile air unit. It was a very, very useful piece of equipment.”
