USA PRO CHALLENGE RESULTS: Tejay van Garderen wins Stage 5 Vail Time Trail

Cyclist will race 115.2 miles from Loveland to Fort Collins.


VAIL, Colo. — Tejay van Garderen has won Stage 5 of the USA Pro Challenge, the Vail Time Trial.

He set a course record, finishing the uphill time trial in 25:01. He now holds the overall lead, 1 minute, 30 seconds ahead of Mathias Frank. Tommy Danielson sits in third overall, 1 minute, 42 seconds behind.

“I was actually surprised to hear I got the stage win when I crossed the line because I felt pretty bad those last 2 kilometers,” van Garderen said in the post-race press conference.

Andrew Talansky had the second-fastest time of the day, at 25 minutes 5 seconds.
