Valley View street plan questioned

Dear Editor,

Once or twice weekly for the past year we have used the excellent facilities of Valley View Hospital and Glenwood Medical Associates. We have entered from all sides. Now we question the advisability of vacating 19th Street, for the following reasons:

1. Entering the complex from the south on 21st Street is difficult because it is steep near the top and icy in the winter, and the intersection at Palmer Street is a blind, narrow corner. How much this street will be used will depend on the ease of other possible entries. Since 21st Street is alongside of Sunnyside Retirement apartments, a big increase in traffic would not be beneficial.

2. The ease of entering the complex from Blake Avenue onto a new private drive along the north and finding a parking place will depend upon the kind of a road and its maintenance. This must be an easy way to enter the facility, otherwise we should keep the present 19th Street, which does provide easy access, not only from Blake but straight up from Highway 82, also known as Grand Avenue. In addition, there should be an easy way for private vehicles to access the ER in an emergency. I have accessed the ER by 19th Street for an emergency a number of times in a private vehicle without any problems.

So take a drive around the present facility and maybe you will have a better idea how to vote. Remember, it is still possible to expand the hospital without vacating 19th Street.
