Valley View, Vail Medical partner on new hospital in Eagle

The Eagle Valley will have a new hospital in about two years thanks to a partnership between Valley View Hospital and Vail Valley Medical Center. While the plan was in the works since the late 1990s, it went into high gear when East West Partners, developers of Eagle Ranch subdivision in Eagle, donated 14 acres specifically for a hospital. The boards of the two hospitals formed a corporation in 2001 to cement their partnership after the land was offered, said Valley View chief executive officer, Gary Brewer.Ground breaking is expected in spring 2007 with completion some time in 2008.Although the partners compete for some patients, and will continue to do so, “we’ll try not to duplicate services” in the new hospital, Brewer said. Both hospitals will contribute half the cost of the new building, which in the early stages of planning looks to be 39,000-square-feet, which carries a price tag of $21 million.”That’s (very) preliminary,” Brewer said. Plans also call for 20 beds, five of which will be dedicated to maternity and 15 to medical and surgical patients, said Greg Repetti, president and CEO of the Vail Valley Medical Center. The new hospital will have a separate board of directors and administration, Brewer said.”We’re very excited,” Repetti said. “Valley View has been a good partner.”With a burgeoning population in the mid-Eagle Valley, the area has needed a small hospital, Repetti said. The two hospitals also operate a medical clinic in Eagle, which is slated to move into a 34,00-square-foot building this year.”We’re building it with the intent that it can be expanded,” Repetti said.
