Varoqua (Rokie) Skufca

Varoqua (Rokie) Skufca, 97, died of natural causes at the nursing home in Paonia on Oct. 24, 2005.She was born March 30, 1908, in Jamesport, Mo., to Ira and Nettie Pease Fender. When she was 7, she moved to Missouri Heights with her parents and three older brothers, Verle, Loren and Eddis.Growing up, she helped with the many chores around the ranch. She and her husband, Edwin Bone, owned and operated a cinder block plant in Aspen. Later they moved to El Jebel where they operated a pumice block plant until his death.Rokie enjoyed sewing, baking, fishing and gardening. She loved poking around in her raspberry patch. Rokie was remarried in 1972 to Stan Skufca, and in 1991 they moved to Paonia.Rokie is survived by her only son, Harold (Elouise) Fender, of Crawford; grandsons Gary (Linda) Fender, of Glenwood Springs, and Marvin (Roberta) Fender, of Debeque; great-grandchildren Kevin (Kelly) Fender, of Silt, Jim (Nikki) Fender, of Silt, Chris (Alicia) Fender, of Grand Junction, Sharon (Jerod) Samuelson, of Carbondale; six great-grandchildren; nieces Myrlene Morrow, of Hotchkiss, Geraldine Everett, of Provo, Utah, and Betty Prichard, of St. Louis, Mo.Rokie is preceded in death by her brothers and her husband.There is a memorial at 10 a.m. today at Farnum Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs, with graveside services to follow.
