An accident just south of Carbondale on Highway 133, practically on the doorstep of Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District’s headquarters, sent a man to the hospital on Monday.

Crews got the page at 7:15 a.m., and an ambulance was on scene at 7:18 a.m. A Toyota 4Runner driven by the injured man, whose name had not been released by late afternoon, had rear-ended an empty cattle truck.

The driver of the 4Runner was conscious while en route to Valley View Hospital, and was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with serious injuries.

The semi driver was not injured, and the truck sustained minimal damage.
