GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Authorities released the identity of a father and son who died after their vehicle traveled off a 700-foot embankment north of Glenwood Springs late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Garfield County Deputy Coroner Chandra Mortensen said the father was James Blissett, 41, and the son was Jessy Blissett, 9, both of Lakewood. They were hunting in the area near Windy Point on Transfer Trail about nine miles north of Glenwood Springs.

A toxicology report wasn’t yet complete Tuesday. But Mortensen said people the Blissetts were camping with said that he had been drinking during the day and for some reason decided to pack up and leave for home during the night.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said rescuers worked into the night during cold conditions and heavy snowfall.
