The Burned Area Emergency Response program identifies imminent post-fire threats to critical values on National Forest System lands and actions to reduce these threats through appropriate emergency measures to protect human life and safety, property, and critical natural or cultural resources. While the focus is on NFS lands, general information and modelling from the BAER assessment helps to inform other agencies of potential concerns within and downstream of the fire.
