Rafting gone wrong in western Colorado

Scott Archuleta of Avon (wearing the gray personal flotation device) captured this video on May 31 rafting the Shoshone Rapids on the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon. Things get a bit hairy at about 1:10 of the video.

The video was shot with a GoPro silver mounted to a post off of the stern frame.

Flows on the river at Dotsero were measured at 6,940 cubic feet per second that day. They have increased since to more than 10,000 cfs. Rafters, guides and boaters urge caution at all times.

Archuleta said the others on the raft were Chris Rome, Malissa Walker, Doug Richardson, Kylye Larson and Rich Micdillda, all from Glenwood Springs. “They are all experienced rafters and all reacted perfectly,” Archuleta said by email.
