Virginia Lee Payne

Virginia Lee Payne passed away April 11, 2006, at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle. She was 73 years old.Virginia was born in Las Animas March 1, 1933, to Hayward and Fern (Monholin) Gall. She lived in Colorado all her life and spent her childhood and school years in Artesia. She married William Payne Sr. in Colorado Springs on May 10, 1950.Virginia and her husband traveled with his work and made their home in Rifle eight years ago. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She loved to dance (mostly the jitterbug), cook and take care of her children and grandchildren, until her health made her slow down.She is survived by her husband; son William V. (Karen) Payne Jr., of Guffy; daughters Debbie Lynn (Alian) Roquet, of Montreal, Canada, and Lori Wendt, of Rifle; numerous brothers and sisters; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by daughter, Judy Payne.There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle, for all family and friends.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Pikes Peak Chapter, 19 North Tejon #210, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.Rifle Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
