Vocalist, pianist to team up in Rifle concert

Noted mezzo-soprano Jennifer Carr and pianist Linda Jenks Colby will team up to present a joint vocal and piano recital at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church (corner of Seventh Street and Birch) in Rifle.This program represents the second in the St. Mary Summer Concert Series.Carr has performed professionally in New York City and at the Aspen Music Festival and received her master’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. She recently sang the title role of Carmen in the Dallas Youth Orchestra’s concert version of the opera. Carr is on the staff of the Music Department at Texas Wesleyan University. Carr also taught for a number of years at Carbondale Middle School and Aspen Middle School. Colby was managing director of the Las Vegas Symphony, co-founder of the Las Vegas Junior Conservatory, and has published numerous articles in national publications. She was festival pianist for the Breckenridge Music Festival, and has soloed with numerous U.S. orchestras.She graduated magna cum laude from the Indiana University School of Music, studied with Abbey Simon of the Juilliard School, and earned her doctorate in piano performance at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Colby now maintains a piano studio in New Castle. Both performers will feature music in the Spanish tradition. Composers represented will include Ginastera (Argentina), Albeniz (Spain), de Falla (Spain), Granados (Spain), Lecuona (Cuba) and others.Tickets: $10 for adults, $8 for kids 12 and under and seniors.Information: 984-0419.
